Criminals target academy in Standerton

The suspects, aged 38 and 56, were arrested on 16 April. Black plastic chairs, desks, computers and other office equipment with an estimated value of R70 000 were stolen.

Two men appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on 17 April in connection with a business burglary at an academy in Beyers Naudé Street over the weekend.

The suspects, aged 38 and 56, were arrested on 16 April.

Black plastic chairs, desks, computers and other office equipment with an estimated value of R70 000 were stolen.

Duplicate keys were allegedly used during the break-in, the alarm was deactivated and no CCTV-footage is available.

The stolen goods were recovered.

Police suspect the suspects are foreign nationals who might have previously worked at the school.

They urged businesses to take extra precautionary security measures such as installation of surveillance cameras, minimising the chances of being broken into.
