Truck damages property extensively
A similar incident took place in 2017 when a small sedan also crashed into the house.
Mr James Mkhwanazi, his wife and five children, were woken on 16 May at about 4.40am to the sound of a truck smashing into their house.
“It was a big shock,” Mr Mkhwanazi said.
The Mkhwanazis have property, consisting of a house and adjacent house, in Morgenzon at a sharp curve of the R35 Road.
Mr Muso Khubeka, DA councillor, was the first to have seen what had happened and immediately called the Morgenzon Police.
Police left the accident scene at about 11am and the truck driver, who broke his leg, was admitted to the Standerton Hospital.
The house in question serves as a garage for the two family cars as well as equipment and tools.
A similar incident took place in 2017 when a small sedan also crashed into the house.
Mr Mkhwanazi bought the stand and property, which are not insured, in 2007 and struggled to come to terms with what had happened.
“The damage could amount to more than R100 000.”
According to Mr Kubheka, the Lekwa Municipality is well aware of the danger on that road.
“I had a discussion with the HOD of Technical Services, Ms Makhazasi, regarding the matter and she promised to escalate it to the relevant authorities, but to date nothing has been done.”
