Alice the cat is back home after almost a month

"A newcomer arrived at the colony. She wanted love and attention and was not feral at all," said Ms Nicolette van Zyl from Feral Watch.

TRICHARDT – ‘The cat always comes back’ is a statement proven correct by Alice, a young tortoise shell cat from Trichardt.

She was reunited with her humans after spending almost a month on the streets.

She went missing after she was spayed and her owner, Ms Charlotte Weingartz, was distraught by her disappearance from their home in Bekker Street since 23 April.

The Weingartz family did not give up hope although every day that she was missing was another day that made their hope dwindle.

They even offered a R1 000 reward to the person who would return their precious pet.

Several people called the family with sightings of her and each report was followed up, but with no luck.

After almost a month, Feral Watch TNR received a call from a woman who feeds a colony of feral cats at her home at De Villiers Street.

“A newcomer arrived at the colony. She wanted love and attention and was not feral at all,” said Ms Nicolette van Zyl from Feral Watch.

The connection was made between the missing cat and the one arriving at the feral colony after photos were posted on the ‘Secunda Verlore Diere’ Facebook-group.

Ms Weingartz said on Facebook that she was overcome with emotion and was extremely grateful to have her kitten back at home.

Alice the cat went on a walkabout for almost a month.
