UPDATE: 13:40 – Parents raise concerns about their children
eMZINONI – Residents told Brig Sifiso Cele, cluster commander, that the children were left traumatised by what transpired at the schools yesterday.
They alleged that the children are not eating and some are still shaking of fear.
They requested Brig Cele to organise counselling for the learners.
Brig Cele promised the residents that the police and government officials will ensure the safety of the learners.
He is in communication with the Department of Education to organise counselling for the affected learners.
Schools were closed today because of the unrest in the area.
Some residents have left the meeting and are on their way to the police station and some have entered the hall to be addressed by Brig Cele.

UPDATE: 13:00 – Police accused of brutality
eMZINONI -The residents are accusing the police of brutality.
They alleged that the police are using live rounds to disperse the crowds.
It is alleged by the attendees that a 14-year-old girl was shot by the police. She was transported to Steve Biko Hospital.
Police have denied the allegations.
The community meeting is underway, however there is cooperation.

eMZINONI – The residents are now gathered at the Joseph Nhlane Community Hall waiting to be addressed by the police following the violence in the area which began yesterday.
Police called for a community meeting to address these matters.
Ridge Times have been reliably informed that a house belonging to a police officer was torched last night.
Police confirmed and said a number of people were arrested last night.
