#DrugBust: Crime intelligence nabs suspect after successful operation in Standerton

An investigation was launched at 8.30am on an identified suspect, allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm, who was allegedly dealing in drugs at 4 Paarl Street.

Standerton Crime Intelligence arrested Mr Ugochukwu Cletus (Mike) Ukaha (32) on 26 August after a successful tactical-driven operation during which the K9-unit was involved.

An investigation was launched at 8.30am at a house in 4 Paarl Street, where the suspect was allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm and allegedly dealing in drugs.

During the search, he was found in possession of a black Norinco-pistol, without a serial number, with an empty magazine.

The following items were recovered:

• one Atis-shotgun with serial number 28688
• 109 satchels of crystal methamphetamine, weighing 38g
• two unpacked bags of crystal methamphetamine, weighing 236g
• 16 stones of CAT, weighing 2.24kg (CAT is the slang used for the stimulant methcathinone, often referred to as the ‘poor man’s coke’)
• loose powder of CAT, weighing 157g
• two Lenovo-laptops and laptop charger
• four 9mm live ammunition
• 20 live rifle ammunition
• 32 DSG shotgun ammunition
• six cell phones

The recovered items have an estimated value of R160 000.

Cases were opened at the Standerton Police after the arrest.

Mr Ukaha is facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of illegal ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property and dealing in drugs.

He appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 27 August and Wednesday, 28 August

Mr Ukaha was remanded in police custody and set to appear again on Friday, 30 August for a formal bail application.
