Reaction officers foil car thieves

According to Mr Andries Lee from Roman Alarms, one of the suspects kicked open the Jetta's door which slammed into the door of the security, in an attempt to prevent the officer from getting out.

TRICHARDT – A stolen car was recovered in Trichardt early this morning, 11 October.

Reaction officers from Roman Alarms were on their way to the corner of Jansen and Grey Street when they spotted two men pushing a cream colored Jetta 2 down the street.

The officers found this suspicious and stopped next to the Jetta.

According to Mr Andries Lee from Roman Alarms, one of the suspects kicked open the Jetta’s door which slammed into the door of the security, in an attempt to prevent the officer from getting out.

The two thieves then scattered.

The owner of the vehicle also arrived on the scene.

Vehicle theft has been rife in the Govan Mbeki municipal area over the past two months.

Thieves especially targeted older model vehicles and bakkies.

In many cases, the thieves pushed the vehicles out of the owner’s yard and up the street before starting the engine.
