Most of the time cellphones, television sets and laptops were stolen.

The Bethal Community Police Forum (BCPF) said that during their patrols through the different neighbourhoods encounter some safety concerns.

Here are some tips for keeping safe:

– Well lit properties are usually avoided by criminals.
– A properly maintained alarm system and perimeter monitoring are an excellent deterrent. Do keep in mind that the system should be tested weekly.
– Be aware of your surroundings and also keep an appropriate vigilance for your neighbours.
– When not present in a room, either lock the entrance to such a room or security gate.
– Dogs that are left to freely roam the property are greater deterrent for criminals.
– Automated gate with an anti-lift bracket is strongly recommended.
– Report all suspicious activity to police, CPF or security company.
– Get involved in CPF activities and neighbourhood patrol groups, and assist with proactive crime prevention.
– Try to change your routine. Drive a different route to and from your house.
– Electronics such as televisions, DVD players and laptops should not be seen from outside.
– All crime should be reported, even attempted break-ins.
– If your dogs are poisoned, make sure you enhance your security measurements and also report it to the police and or CPF.
