Department helps CPFs to combat crime in the province

The MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Ms Gabisile Shabalala issued a press release on 10 March about assistance that will be given to Community Policing Forums (CPFs) in Mpumalanga.

As part of combatting crime and mobilising communities in the fight against criminality in various communities, Ms Shabalala will hand over reflective jackets, hand torches and whistles to the CPF-members in various policing areas.

According to the statement, she believes that crime prevention cannot be left only in government’s hands, but communities should also play their role through structures such as the CPFs.

The CPFs in the Gert Sibande Region region will receive their packages in the next coming weeks.

“Such initiatives will go a long way towards enhancing effective partnership between them and communities,” she said.

“We believe that the volunteers will work even harder in preventing crime and also help in bringing suspects to book so that communities can live in peace.”

She added that the business community’s involvement in crime-fighting gives hope that the war against crime will be won.

Ms Shabalala concluded by calling on more support to CPFs from all stakeholders, including the private sector, to make communities safer.

“I am happy about it,” Mr Charles Msibi of the CPF in Standerton said.
