Man is Secunda’s first Covid-19 case
Although the wife tested negative for Covid-19, she is also in self-quarantine at home with her spouse. She said it is good that residents are informed of cases in their town, but that they should not panic.
SECUNDA – A man from Secunda is now confirmed to be the first in the area to test positive for the coronavirus Covid-19.
Ridge Times spoke to the patient’s wife this afternoon. She said he is not showing any symptoms associated with the disease.
“My husband returned from Europe on Tuesday, 10 March. He actually cut his trip that took him to several places in Europe, including the Austrian border and Italy, short by eight days.”
She said he spent a mere two days in Italy before returning to South Africa. The couple decided to have themselves tested for the virus before going away with friends for the weekend.
“We did not suspect it at all. He has already informed everyone he was in contact with since returning home,” she said.

“People panic-buy, especially hand sanitizer and toilet paper. Now there is nothing available for those of us who are in need of it.”
The patient will be going to Rob Ferreira Hospital tomorrow (19 March) for extra tests before returning home again.
Sinenhlanhla Jimoh, the spokesperson for the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) said that she could not confirm cases of single patients due to their code of ethics, but can only confirm the number of latest cases in the province, as issued by the Department of Health.
