Bikers raise funds for Franky Simelane

eMZINONI – Local bikers recently held a charity drive to raise money for Franky Simelane’s (14) medical costs.

Franky has Sturge Weber Syndrome which has resulted to his health deteriorating.

Highveld Ridge Riders, Parios Lacos, Regular Riders, Mighty warriors, Emmanuel Christian Riders, Baeti MCC and Fearless Bikers joined by other good Samaritans had a drive in the area and then took Franky for breakfast.

During the drive, locals were taught about the conditions and were encouraged to give support to Franky.

They also went to church to pray for him and they handed over gifts to Franky.

Mr Mpho Mamahlodi, organiser, said the bikers were giving back to the community and giving support to Franky and his family.

He said thank all those took part in the event and the business people who donated.

“We were overwhelmed by the support we received from locals. A businessman donated towards a hospital bill for Franky.

“We will continue supporting and helping were we can.”

Franky’s family thanked the bikers and the community for this kind gesture.

Ms Ayanda Simelane, sister, said this brought hope to the family.

She said the family, especially their mother, has been struggling to deal with the situation.

“My younger brother is a strong person. When he was born, doctors said he will not live more than three months, but by God’s grace he is still alive. Sturge Weber Syndrome causes the brain not to develop fully hence, this condition also caused the mark on his face which is called a port wine birth mark.

“It normally appears on one side of the face, but unfortunately with his condition, the mark is on both sides of Franky’s face and other part of his body. His left side is shorter than the right and Franky walks with a limp.

“He is taking medication to control his fits and he has glaucoma which led to a burst eye, but he is now taking medication to avoid damage to the other eye.

“He still needs an artificial eye which will match the other eye become the one that he has is small and always gives him problems.

“The eye he needs will cost R21 000. He will soon also go for an operation for nasal polyps.”
