Motorbike riders stop in Standerton en route to Hillcrest

The 50th commemorative anniversary of the DJ Rally took place over the weekend, with 107 motorbike riders stopping at the Engen Garage in Meyerville on Friday, 13 March.
According to the clerk of the course, Ms Larina McGregor, they departed from Heidelberg and would have stayed overnight in Newcastle, en route to Hillcrest.
The assistant clerk of the course, Mr Robert Haydon, said riders countrywide participated and even riders afar as Germany, England, Australia and New Zealand took on the journey.
The pre-1936 models were carefully inspected in Standerton.
“It is a time trial, not a speed trial,” Ms McGregor said.

A son and his elderly father, Adrian and Gerald Hollis, in a Sunbeam with a sidecar joined the rally.
Refreshments were on offer for these men with their classic motorbikes where the most accurate times counted.
