Sasol Secunda makes a difference and support fence-line communities during the Covid-19 pandemic
In response to the presidential call for a 21-day lockdown, Sasol has donated 66 mattresses to the Govan Mbeki Municipality homeless community.
SECUNDA – During the Covid-19 virus outbreak Sasol Secunda has reached out to its surrounding communities to be a force for good to offer support to vulnerable groups.
Mattresses donated to Govan Mbeki municipality for homeless community:
In response to the presidential call for a 21-day lockdown, Sasol has donated 66 mattresses to the Govan Mbeki Municipality homeless community.
The homeless are being sheltered at Kinross Golf Club Lapa in an effort to keep them off the streets to protect them and combat the spread of the coronavirus.
Sasol donated 400 litres of sanitiser daily in support of government’s effort to combat spread of Covid-19 virus:
Sasol, as a producer and bulk supplier of a variety of specialty chemicals, has developed a new unique blend of alcohol-based chemicals to be used in manufacturing of hand sanitisers to help address the increase in market demand for these products.
As part of the company’s ongoing partnership with government to help flatten the coronavirus curve, Sasol has, to date, donated over 2 200l of sanitisers to the community through the following government/ community support structures:
• 400l handed over to Minister State Security (Ayanda Dlodlo) and Govan Mbeki Municipality on 30 March. The sanitisers are being utilised at the local municipality public facilities such as pay points and essential services facilities.
• 400l handed over to the District Command Council on 31 March to support border post staff especially in hot-spots like the Mahamba border post next to Piet Retief/ Swaziland as well as distribution to clinics and local hospitals.
• 400l handed over on 1 April to the District Department of Health, to support GMM clinics
• 400l handed over on 2 April to taxi associations, the police and army personnel
• 600l handed over to Dipaleseng and Lekwa municipalities on 3 April
The District Command office was also supported with 500 units of safety PPE (masks and body suits) and sanitisers are being distributed to Bethal prison, as well as clinics and hospitals in Evander, Piet Retief, Standerton and Balfour on 3 April.
• Support has also been extended of the police and the SANDF with donated resources such as tents, accommodation, generators at the check points.
The distribution of the sanitisers to the community will continue weekly through the above structures during the lockdown period.
