Secunda pensioner walks to motivate others
He had to walk between four and 10 laps daily around the building at Davies Court to complete the distance of a little further than an average marathon.
SECUNDA – Mr Patrick Shannon (70), a resident at Davies Court finished a marathon over 21 days.
Mr Shannon decided to walk 47km over 21 days of the lock down to motivate others and to embrace life.
He had to walk between four and 10 laps daily around the building at Davies Court to complete the distance of a little further than an average marathon.
He walked a few laps in the morning and a few laps in the afternoon. He completed his final lap of the 47km on Thursday, 30 April.
Other residents at Davies Court also walked short distances in the parking area.
Mr Shannon lived in Cape Town where he worked as a landscaper. He moved to Secunda seven years ago.
He took part in the Comrades Marathon five times and completed it three times. He also took part in the Two Oceans Marathon five times.
