Police catch suspect in possession of school’s property

The owner confirmed that there was a break-in at Ntababomvu Primary School at Dundonald.

BETHAL – Members of the Secunda Flying Squad arrested a 38-year-old man for being in possession of suspected stolen goods in Bethal today, 21 June.

Sgt Mduduzi Vincent Sibeko and Sgt Tumelo Malope conducted stop and search on the N17-highway in Bethal when they stopped and searched a taxi. They found a man in the taxi with a black and grey back-pack containing four laptops with five chargers.

Const Thomas Mogadime, spokesman for Bethal Police, said the members then discovered that one laptop had a sticker on with contact details of the lawful owner and they phoned the number. The owner then confirmed that there was a break-in at Ntababomvu Primary School at Dundonald.

The police seized a black Packard BELL laptop, black and grey HP laptop, grey HP laptop and a black Toshiba laptop, as well as two black Verbatim USBs containing the school’s subject files from the suspect. The value of the stolen property is estimated at R30 000.

The suspect was detained at Bethal police station for further investigation.

Acting station commander, Captain Anné Steyn thanked the members for their hard work and ensuring the arrest.
