Tourism Minister tells eMbalenhle’s youth to pursue careers in the tourism industry

The minister said she moved around eMbalenhle where she noticed the good work done by the executive mayor with cleaning up the township and trying to deal with sewage spills.

eMBALENHLE – Tourism Minister Mamoloko Kubayi Ngubane applauded Govan Mbeki Municipality’s executive mayor, Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma, for his hard work at the Youth Tourism Imbizo that was held at eMbalenhle Sasol Club on Saturday,10 April.

The minister said she moved around eMbalenhle where she noticed the good work done by the executive mayor with cleaning up the township and trying to deal with sewage spills.

When opening the Imbizo, Mr Zuma told the minister that the municipality has no more money and he, therefore, hopes the community will work with the municipality to better the situation.

Mr Zuma said the situation does not only need municipal officials and politicians, but also all community members.

He looked worried when talking about the municipality’s financial challenges but promised the minister that he and everyone else will work hard to bring the municipality into a better state.

Ms Kubayi Ngubane encouraged young people to take opportunities that are available in the tourism industry.

She said Govan Mbeki Municipality is also a tourist destination because of mines, big industries and entertainment places.

The youth were told of not undermining careers such as a chef and waitress because opportunities are waiting for them out there.

The minister promised to offer training to all young people who are interested in careers such as chef, tour guides and other opportunities available in the tourism industry. The chief whip in the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature, Mr Fidel Mlombo, told the youth that the Imbizo was not organised as a regular event and not because of the upcoming local government elections.

This comment was prompted by some attendees who claimed the Imbizo was an election ploy to gain support from the youth.
