Secunda women go the extra mile to care for others

“With the help I received from my community, I feel it is my time to give back,” said Ms Dyssel.

HIGHVELD – If anyone can relate to living off handouts and food parcels, it is Ms Sammy Dyssel, founder of the organisation Caring Love for One Another.

Ms Dyssel had seen her fair share of financial burdens when her son Logan (7) was diagnosed with a heart defect one week after his birth in 2013.

As medical bills continued to pile up, putting food on the table was just as much as a struggle.

Today, as she sees her son fully recovered and in a place where she can give back, together with her three volunteers, Ms Lillian Scholtz, Ms Susan Gross and Ms Courtney Martin, they are now reaching out to those who are less fortunate.

“With the help I received from my community, I feel it is my time to give back,” said Ms Dyssel.

The registered non-profitable organisation have helped hundreds of people, and the number is growing by the week.

They purely rely on funds and donations from businesses and the community.

“The support we have been receiving from our local community has been amazing,” said Ms Dyssel.

With perseverance and determination, the women are slowly building relationships within the business community and have seen local business, OK Terra Nova, contributing towards this cause.

Although there are many other good organisations with the same goals in mind, the volunteers do strict screening of people who are on the receiving end of the food parcels as not to deprive others who are in just as much need.

With the winter fast approaching the organisation is now collecting blankets and winter clothes for people of all ages.

Ms Dyssel said that about 80 per cent of the families they assist include children ranging from newborn to teens.

Donations of food, blankets, clothes (newborn to all ages – male and female), baby formula, porridge and accessories, school clothes and stationery, and items for disabilities such as wheelchairs, walking aids and crutches are much needed.

“We keep records of all donations and distributions made, these are open for viewing. We assist in all areas of Govan Mbeki Municipality,” concluded Ms Dyssel.

The Pumas Rugby team are also doing a charity drive with Spar franchises based in Ermelo, Witbank, Secunda and Nelspruit.

“Each Spar has been asked to choose a charity/organisation in their local area that needs support and help,” said Ms Cassandra Jacobs, media and marketing for the Pumas.

“This will be a month-long campaign where shoppers can add that bit extra to their trolleys and donate the items in a big crate which will be set aside for the receiving charity,” said Ms Jacobs.

Five Star Superspar in Secunda has nominated Caring Love for One Another as the recipient for this drive.
