MegChem students in Secunda finally graduate

“We have faith in you that you can make a success of your career. All that you need to do is to apply hard work and dedication which we know you have,” said Mr Neetling.

SECUNDA – MegChem hosted the graduation of their students on Thursday, 29 April 2021.

The graduation ceremony, which is normally held in December, was postponed due to Covid-19.

The families of the students were not allowed to attend the graduation because of Covid-19 regulations.

“This has been a unique and challenging time because of the pandemic. We had to extend our program seeing half of our students finishing in December and the others finishing now in April,” said Mr Linda Magqabi, executive manager: Corporate Affairs and Training.

“The pandemic has affected our economy, but today we are grateful to MegChem, MegChem Holdings and SecMet for the role they have played,” said Mr Magqabi.

Mr Pieter Neetling, managing director and a founding member of MegChem, said: “I believe that we as leaders in MegChem have a duty to invest in our younger generation.

“Most of us were at a younger age guided by senior people who set an example and to whom we could look up to.

“Most of our careers were shaped by people who came before us and by the positive impact they had on us. Therefore, we also have a duty to ensure that our younger members have the guidance that we had and it is through training such as this, that we hope to give back what we have received.”

Mr Neetling congratulated the students on their hard work and dedication, despite the pandemic.

“We have faith in you that you can make a success of your career. All that you need to do, is to apply hard work and dedication, which we know you have.

“It makes me proud to see people growing in MegChem and when making use of opportunities, growing in their career, becoming successful, promoted and growing in confidence. This is a feeling of accomplishment,” said Mr Neetling.

He had congratulated all those who are already employed and are beginning the next phase in life.

“For those of you who are still looking, keep your faith. Finding employment in the current pandemic is not easy, but the qualifications and experience gained will serve you well,” concluded Mr Neetling.

Ms Refilwe Mosue, a senior piping engineer for MegChem, said the students have reached a great millstone.

“The seed has been planted. The experience gained throughout the program and relationships you have built with co-workers have paved the way for a lot more of what the future has in store for you,” said Ms Mosue.

She said education is the key to developing oneself.

“I hope all of you find the strength and wisdom to overcome challenges faced in life. Learn to live with gratitude, even for the small things, because it is good for one’s mental wellbeing. Do not walk in history but walk in destiny, rise above your circumstances and fight for the life you know you deserve,” concluded Ms Mosue.
