Safe house in Secunda will open soon

SAVF needs money to pay care workers and buy groceries.

SECUNDA – The SAVF’s (Suid-Afrikaanse Vrouefederasie) safe house in Secunda for children will open soon.

The staff of SAVF found sponsors and began with renovations to the building where the safe house was supposed to already have opened last year.

They initially planned to open the house before the end of last year, however, the final touches on the house are still being done.

The SAVF and social workers in the area experienced a great need for such a house as the safe house for children in Evander is often full and cannot accommodate all the children who come from extremely bad and difficult circumstances.

Most of the time these children are urgently in need of another place to stay.

Businesses and the community opened their hearts and sponsored cupboards, beds, furniture, palisades, toilets, baths, basins and everything else needed to open a house.

However, the biggest need the SAVF currently has to open this house is money.

They will have to appoint four care workers, two of whom will work night shifts and two-day shifts.

These care workers will have to be paid monthly.

The SAVF will also have the monthly running costs of the house such as water and electricity, groceries, toiletries and cleaning detergents.

They also still need a jungle gym and swings for the children to play on outside.

If you want to support the SAVF financially and help them to open and run the safe house for children effectively, contact Ms Annamarie Esterhuisen at 072 348 2197 or 017 634 7719.
