SECUNDA –Secunda Police call on residents to place their mark and vote for the new CPF executives on Monday, 21 June, at the police station.
These votes are extremely important as elected candidates will see the positions of a chairperson, deputy chairperson, secretary and deputy secretary being filled in the CPF committee.
The CPF candidates are:
• Mr Imraan Salajee
• Mr Jaco Horn
• Mr Cobus Carpenter
• Ms Alta Horn
• Ms Antwanai Wright
• Mr Hennie Pretorius
• Ms Sharona Wright
Well-known resident and local businessman, Mr Imraan Salajee said: “Our police are understaffed, we need active community involvement by joining in the CPF.
“Crime is a huge problem and it is spiralling out of control.
“We need more police visibility and accountability.
“The community needs to feel comfortable to be able to speak to somebody when reporting crimes, whether it be through the police or the CPF.
“Gender-based violence is also a huge issue. We need a facility where victims of domestic crimes have a safe haven to go to until they can find other means of accommodation.”
Although he has only been in Secunda for four years, Mr Coubus Carpenter is an active member of the CPF.
He said: “There are a lot of legal issues in the CPF. All entities of the CPF need to work together. We all have a common goal which is to combat crime. We need committed people and be able to work as one.
“Our justice system needs to be upped. I would like to see old promises filled by providing the much needed technology such as cameras.”
Following in her parents’ footsteps in combating crime, is CPF member Ms Antwanai Wright.
She said: “I want to help people and create a safer environment for them. I come from a bloodline where both my parents have service in the police. I want to do the same and serve my community.
I am calling out to the community and especially the youth to assist in combating crime.
Our crime rate is a huge challenge and need our community involved in fighting crime together with the police and CPF.
Known in his community an active member of the CPF, Mr Hennie Pretorius said: “My vision and mission is to get the public of Secunda involved with the CPF to stand together and fight crime.
“We all know that crime is getting out of hand and together we can support the police and make Secunda a safer place to live in. I have always been part of crime fighting units.
“I am the current chairman for Sector 2 police and also head of the Mpumalanga Reaction unit for NCA ( National Crime Assist).”
Serving her community through security and the CPF is Ms Sharona Wright.
She said: “Our biggest challenge is crime and we need the community’s involvement to help bring our crime down. We need the CPF and all sectors to work hand in hand. “Both my parents served their community and I want to do the same.
“I am an active member of the CPF and I am working for a security company and bring my knowledge to serving my community by fighting crime.
“I appeal to the youth to help our police and join the CPF to fight crime.
