Secunda’s Marieta Wright promoted to captain
I have waited 22 years for the promotion to captain, but it was worth it.
SECUNDA – The local police and community have welcomed the promotion of Capt Marieta Wright.
After graduating from the Tshwane Police Academy (Pretoria West Police Academy) Capt Wright joined the Secunda Police Station in 1990.
She worked in different fields such as the Vehicle Theft Unit, the Detectives Unit, the Fraud Unit, Radio Control, the Flying Squad, Crime Prevention and as Sector Commander.
Because of personal reasons and to spend more time with her family, she decided to leave the police in 2014.
“My blood is blue, I became too restless and decided to re-join the police in September 2016,” said Capt Wright.
She was then placed at the Dirkiesdorp Police Station where she served as the commander of the detective branch.
She was stationed there until July 2019 when she received a transfer back to Secunda.
“I was appointed as the CIMAC official. I gathered environmental information on crime scenes, collecting information on different crimes, analyse crime scenes to try and make connections to find out if there is a specific trend and modus operandi on certain crimes,” said Capt Wright.
She once again wanted to leave the police after 25 years of service, at the rank of Warrant Officer.
This changed when she was promoted to the rank of captain in April.
“I have waited 22 years for the promotion to captain, but it was worth it.
“I have learnt a lot during my years in the service and from different people and commanders in the service. I am thankful for that,” said Capt Wright.
Besides dedicating her life to the police, Capt Wright is a wife, a mother and a grandmother.
Capt Wright is married to Mr Bjon Wright for 21 years.
He also served in the police but had seen a career change and is now working for Sasol.
“I am always willing to assist the public with crime-related problems.
“I receive a lot of enquiries from the public. When they need advice on certain problems I try to assist and give them the right advice,” concluded Capt Wright.
