SACCW offers ‘R U OK’ services to residents
According to Mr Theo Craven, control room operator for ACSU and district manager for the South African Community Crime Watch Gert Sibande Region, admin will set up check points and will arrange with travelers privately to let them know if they are at a certain place at a certain time.
The South African Community Crime Watch (SACCW) group is offering ‘R U OK’ services to residents who plan to take a trip out of town.
Residents will be added to a Whatsapp-group for the duration of their trip.
When added on the group, members will receive a template over Whatapp that will need to be sent back on the group.
Admin and members agree on specific check-in points and times during their travels.
On the template residents are requested to state if they will be using the same route during their return trip and should a different route be used they should notify admin on the updated route.
Admin requests that when residents are on their return trip, they should let them know on the group.
According to Mr Theo Craven, control room operator for ACSU and district manager for the South African Community Crime Watch Gert Sibande Region, admin will set up check points and will arrange with travelers privately to let them know if they are at a certain place at a certain time.
“We do this to avoid irritation during your travels and will call you if you do not report to us within a certain amount of time.
“Travelers who are driving alone can be assured that admin will call to check-up on them,” he said.
He added, that the aim is not to intrude on residents trips.
According to him all personal details are protected by the access to information act.
Members who will be travelling for work purposes on a more frequent basis, can decide if they would prefer to stay on the ‘R U OK’-group permanently.
Residents can contact Mr Craven at 081 733 0032 if they are interested.
