New addiction rehab centre opens its doors near Evander
Centre needs sponsorhip to help more addicts to become free.
EVANDER – The Yaweh Rapha Addiction Treatment Centre officially opened its doors near Evander on June 1.
This centre is the brainchild of Mr Marc Fick and his wife, Ms Chantelle-lee Fick as they felt the Lord laid it on their hearts in April to open a recovery centre in the Secunda area.
They have been working with the Yaweh Rapha Centre in Vanderbijlpark for the past two years and have seen more than 40 people recovered, restored and able to begin a new life.
The couple began planning and getting things into place and Mr Fick said with the help of people with the heart of God who invested and partnered with the centre in Vanderbijlpark, they were able to open the centre that will help people and families in Secunda and surrounding areas to be restored.
Mr Fick still works at Sasol, but Ms Fick resigned from her full-time job to be at the centre on a full-time basis.
The church building at the centre will be used for lectures, worship nights, and services for Yaweh Rapha Addiction Treatment Centre residents.
The residents will complete a six-month programme that will include celebrating recovery, learning about the heart of addiction, walking in one’s true identity, spiritual teachings and skills development.
They will receive a certificate of completion after six months.
Mr Fick said people are welcome to stay for longer than six months should they wish.
People also have an option to become leaders or staff members at the centre.
“The idea of our centre is to not just be a hospital where the guys come in, get clean and go out again. It is for them to find their true identity as God created them and to begin walking in the fullness God has created them to walk in and begin a new life, a new beginning,” said Mr Fick.
His vision for the centre’s future is to make it self sustainable by creating a vegetable garden and selling the vegetables and furniture that the men staying at the centre will build. They are also looking into steelwork.
In the process, the men will, during their six-month stay at the centre, learn skills that they can apply when they leave the centre and which will enable them to earn a living.
“We want to help these men to find out what they will enjoy doing. If they want to become an electrician, we will get someone to come and teach them those skills, or if they want to become a salesman or entrepreneur, we will educate and train them to become that,” said Mr Fick.
They are also planning on opening a small restaurant and entertainment area at the premises where the men’s families can visit them.
There are already seven men in the centre of who some had lived on the streets of Secunda and surrounding areas.
Some are already recovering and became staff members at the centre.
Mr Fick said the families of these men are not always able to pay for their rehabilitation and recovery, thus they need sponsors.
They call it Grace beds when someone sponsors a man’s spot in the centre and provide groceries and other necessities for the six months duration of the programme.
Businessmen will receive an NPO A18 certificate for sponsorship.
Mr Fick said the centre is open for any kind of addiction, from drugs and alcohol to pornography.
“Opening a rehabilitation centre was not my plan, but God’s.
“He said I must open it and He will provide the finances and means to open it,” said Mr Fick.
“That is what God is doing, we need to see our town changed and families restored and we need everybody in Secunda’s help.”
The Yaweh Rapha Addiction Treatment Centre is registered as a non-profit organisation and a doctor, a nurse and a psychologist are also available for the men to consult.
