Police recover stolen sheep and network tower batteries at eMbalenhle

“We asked them to open their car boot, and then saw a sheep and two sheepskins inside the boot.”

eMBALENHLE- Police arrested five suspects in possession of stolen sheep at Ext 18, eMbalenhle, on Monday, June 21.

According to Const Busi Mthethwa, eMbalenhle police spokesperson, she was called by a police informer about suspicious men who are selling sheep.

When she followed up on the information she discovered that it was true.

“We followed the lead according to the description of the car and the location and found five men.

“We asked them to open their car boot, and then saw a sheep and two sheepskins inside the boot.

“The men could not explain how they came to have the sheep. We then arrested them for possession of suspected stolen property under the stock theft act.”

Const Mthethwa said the suspects will soon appear before the Evander Magistrate’s Court.

The matter is still under investigation.

Mr Koos Basson, a sheep farmer at Grootfontein Farm in the Bethal district, thanked the police for recovering his sheep and said he has lost too much livestock on his farm.

He was impressed by a job well done by the police.

The police also discovered six network tower batteries that were recently stolen from the tower next to K.I. Thwala Secondary School eMbalenhle.

They said the batteries were found inside an empty shack next to the school.

“These batteries were found because they have trackers.

“The network operator phoned us and also sent their helicopter to identify the location of the batteries.

“No arrests have yet been made but we are still investigating,” said Cst Busi Mthethwa.
