The statement said the administrator afterwards encouraged people to get vaccinated and encouraged young people to help the elderly with registration.
The administrator of the Lekwa Municipality, Mr Johann Mettler, was vaccinated at the Standerton Hospital on Wednesday, June 30.
According to the communications department of the municipality, it forms part of his strategy to motivate elderly people to register and vaccinate.
It was also to correct misinformation surrounding the vaccines and their development.
The vaccination programme was officially launched on May 17, targeting healthcare workers, those who are above 60 years and those living with comorbidities.
The statement said the administrator afterwards encouraged people to get vaccinated and encouraged young people to help the elderly with registration.
“I would like to encourage Lekwa-residents to register for the vaccine, which will help in reducing the number of infections,” Mr Mettler said.
“I am pleading with all eligible candidates to register at all health facilities.
“There are facilities throughout the municipality prepared by the Department of Health for this particular service.”
The statement concluded with saying government has targeted to vaccinate five-million elderly people in phase 2 of the roll-out by the end of June.
About 4,5-million doses of Pfizer and 2-million doses from Johnson & Johnson are expected to be received.
