Charity outreach group feeds 50 families in Ermelo

“Our rules for food aid are strict and there are no chance takers on our aid list.

ERMELO – The charity Ermelo outreach group of the South African Community Crime Watch, Gert Sibande region, helps feed 50 families.

It supplies families of four to six people with four cooked meals a month.

The group also provides them with food hampers for 26 days.

The food hampers include:
• Three cans of bully beef
• 1kg rice
• 1kg pasta
• Four packets of frozen mixed vegetables
• 500ml oil
• 500mg margarine
• 60 teabags
• 1kg coffee creamer
• Potatoes
• Onions
• Tomatoes
• 500g salt
• Three 500g soya mince packets
• Three cans of tinned fish
• One bottle of soft drink
• One 500g jam
• 30 eggs
• 500g polony
• Five packets of soup mix
• 2kg maize flour
• 250g sugar
• 12 packets of two-minute noodles.

According to Ms Juliet Basson, a member of the NPO group, there are 45 people who need permanent help with food.

“Our rules for food aid are strict and there are no chance takers on our aid list. There are families with small children who will not be earning an income for the next 14 days,” Ms Basson said.

She requested businesses and residents to donate food, toiletry products and cleaning products towards the initiative.

“It will be highly appreciated if farmers would be willing to donate fresh fruit and vegetables to the group; we will pick it up and process them. If we can get help, it would make the world of difference to the families,” she concluded.
