Victim loses R5 000 after card is cloned at shopping complex in Wesselton

The victim said she had wanted to stop her bank card since it did not emerge out of the ATM; however, 10 minutes later, R5 000 was withdrawn from her account at the Oak Centre.

ERMELO – An incident of card cloning occurred at an FNB ATM at the shopping centre in Wesselton on August 23.

According to Mr Theo Craven, the control room operator for Acsu and the district manager for the South African Community Crime Watch Gert Sibande Region, he suspects that the criminals tampered with the card’s slot at the ATM.

“The suspect approached the victim at the ATM and said he had forgotten his bank slip.

“He then told the victim to continue with their transaction.

“The card was retained in the machine and unfortunately the victim left the ATM, as she was unsure as to what to do,” Mr Craven said.

The victim said she wanted to stop her bank card since it was stuck, however, 10 minutes later, R5 000 was withdrawn from her account at the Oak Centre.
