SAVF in Standerton holds annual general meeting

Ms Hanlie Brits, centre manager, gave her report and gave the example of Jeremiah 28:11- ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’ as something she has always kept close to her heart.

The SAVF in Standerton held their annual general meeting on Wednesday, September 1 and activities of the organisation were highlighted.

Ms Arista van der Merwe, chairman, welcomed the attendees and in good humour explained why the prepared slide-show could not go ahead.

The electricity interruption however, did not prevent the event to be conducted in good fashion.

The venue was decorated with posters and the handwork of the women’s group.

After a prayer, Mr Alf Doubell took his guitar and Ms Van der Merwe joined him on stage for a number or two.

Staff and volunteers of the SAVF each wore a red flower.

The respective personnel had the opportunity to report on their challenges.

In his report, Mr Danie Roberts, crisis centre manager, observed that the SAVF intends to give back to the community, of which their street cleaning project is an example.

“It adds value to the lives of the people and empowers them,” Mr Roberts said.

The new committee for the social office of the SAVF consists of Ms Van der Merwe (chairman), Ms Charmaine Cowley (vice-chairman), Ms Fumekile Makhubela (secretary), Ms Jeanette Roberts (treasurer) and Mr Niekie Muller (additional member).

Mr Danie Roberts is new chairman of the crisis centre, Mr Mxolisi Macozoma the vice-chairman, Ms Elna Timmerman the secretary, Ms Hester Boshoff the treasurer and Rev Wihahn de Beer an additional member.
