Secunda Hawks arrest court administration clerks

According to Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, the duo allegedly colluded and submitted fraudulent claims in November last year for witnesses’ transport allowance on behalf of the witnesses who were not even in court on the days written on the documents.

The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crimes Investigation team at Secunda arrested two administration clerks employed by the Department of Justice today, Tuesday December 21.

Ms Portia Majola (55), an an admin clerk at Secunda Magistrate’s Court, and Ms Thokozile Sophie Nofuya (55), an admin clerk at Evander Magistrate’s Court, were arrested for fraud and theft.

According to Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, the duo allegedly colluded and submitted fraudulent claims in November last year for witnesses’ transport allowance on behalf of the witnesses who were not even in court on the days written on the documents.

“They also did not attach prosecutor`s certificates on the forms.”

Capt Sekgotodi said in a press statement that an internal investigation was launched and the witnesses were interviewed, and they confirmed that they were not in court on the days mentioned on the submitted documents.

A case was opened and transferred to the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Secunda for further investigation.

“During  investigation, the duo were linked to the crime and the department was found to have suffered a loss amount of R15 000,” said Capt Sekgotodi.

Ms Majola and Ms Nofuya were arrested on a warrant of arrest and taken to Secunda Magistrate’s Court today.

They were released on warning.

The case is postponed to 1 February 2022 for legal aid application.
