Secunda’s Breshnev Dhlamini from teaches karate

Man opens karate dojo in Secunda.

Sensei Breshnev Dhlamini (30) was in Grade 1 when he first showed an interest in karate.

His father was a top karateka back in the day and he was the one who inspired Dhlamini to take part in karate.

He practised karate throughout his school life and received his first black belt in 2011 and his second black belt in 2020.

He obtained his Mpumalanga colours in karate and today he has his own Universal Shotokan Karate Union (USKU) dojo in Secunda with about 20 students.

Dhlamini is also the coach of the provincial karate team. He works for Sasol full-time as an electrician and practises karate in his free time.

This karate sensei is interested in politics and is the chairman of the ANC Youth League in Evander.

His aim with the dojo is to get children more interested in sports and have them spend less time on the streets where they get involved with substance abuse and other bad things.

“In karate, we teach them discipline, respect and self-defence,” said Dhlamini.

“They also learn how to take instructions, because they have to take instructions from their sensei.

“My youngest student is five years old. By the time these children begin with school, they would be ready to pay attention and excel at school.”

Dhalimini feels that his students become better in society because of the lessons they learn in the karate classes.
