Police team clamp down on suspected drug peddlers in Delmas

Provincial police commissioner vows to continue with war on drugs.

The police arrested four people and seized more than R30 000 worth of drugs during a raid in Delmas on September 23.

According to Colonel Donald Mdhluli, a spokesman for the police in Mpumalanga, Crime Intelligence members from head office, as well as the K9 Unit in Middelburg and Delmas Police conducted the operation in Delmas.

With the information gathered from the public and the intelligence community, the team identified a premise that was being used for drug trafficking.

The four young people arrested during the raid are between the ages of 19 and 29.

The cops seized 196 zip lock bags containing suspected rock cocaine, 232 pinches of suspected heroin, 11 zip lock bags containing suspected crystal meth, seven bags of dagga and money.

The total value of the confiscated drugs is about R31 480. The suspects appeared in the Delmas District Court on Monday, September 26 to face charges of being found in possession of suspected drugs.

Meanwhile, another alleged drug peddler, Nkosithandile Lungelo Miya (28) appeared in the Ga-Nala Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, September 22 after being arrested by the police in Kriel for drug possession. According to Mdhluli, Miya was granted bail of R500.

Miya was arrested on September 21 after the police members on patrol received information about a man selling drugs in Kriel.

The police found about 42 sachets of suspected nyaope wrapped in small brown plastic, three suspected rocks wrapped in small silver foils and suspected crystal meth in three small transparent plastics.

The case against Miya was postponed to March 22.

The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, commended the public for the valuable information they provide to the police about drug peddling and crime in general.

“I reassure the public that the police will not stop the fight against drug trafficking until all the streets in the province are clean from drugs,” said Manamela.
