Two die in mob justice incidents in eMbalenhle

Mthethwa warned the community to refrain from mob justice because it is a crime. The community should report crimes to the police and not take the law into their own hands.

The eMbalenhle police are investigating two cases of mob justice in which two people lost their lives.

According to Constable Busi Mthethwa, the eMbalenhle police spokesperson, police received a complaint about a mob justice incident in Ext 12 on the evening of March 16.

The police found a badly injured unknown man. An ambulance took him to Evander Hospital, but he died upon arrival.

Mthethwa said a murder docket is open, but they have made no arrests yet. A day after this incident, the police were alerted to another incident in Ext 17.

They found a man with multiple injuries on the ground. Paramedics declared him dead on the scene. Mthethwa said a murder docket is also open in this case, and they have not yet arrested anyone.

Because it is a criminal offence, she warned the community to refrain from mob justice.

“Police appeal to the community to report a crime and not to take the law into their own hands. It can lead to your arrest and conviction.”

Mthethwa said the community should instead join structures like the sector police forum that helps the police fight crime.
