Mob sets alleged robber alight in eMbalenhle

The police found the burnt body of a man on the ground near the Welas River.

According to Constable Busi Mthethwa, the eMbalenhle police spokesperson, the police received a complaint about a man who was taken by a mob accusing him of common robbery on May 11.

Mthethwa said police together with the citizen who reported the matter went to the Azania informal settlement in Ext 22 to search for the deceased.

During this search, residents told the police about a man who was assaulted by community members.

The information directed the police to the Welas River. The police rushed to the scene where they found the burnt body of a man on the ground.

Mthethwa said all role players were summoned to the scene and the man was declared dead.

Mthethwa said a murder case was opened for further investigation and no arrests have been made yet.
