Missing man found in river in Standerton
Foul play is suspected in a case where a 20-year-old man 's body was discovered in the Vaal River, after being missing for nearly a month.
Police suspect 20-year-old Sinenhlanhla Tshabalala met with foul play.
They found his body in the Vaal River on June 27, but police only later confirmed it was Tshabalala who had been missing for almost a month.
Tshabalala was last seen alive at about 22:00 in Ext 1, Sakhile, on June 1. He was reported missing, and a lengthy investigation followed.
“The police met with a security officer, who reported a body was floating in the river on June 27,” said Standerton Police Station spokesperson Captain Gibi Mtsweni.
The fire department aided in retrieving the body. The family identified Tshabalala’s body.
“The police suspect foul play in this case,” added Mtsweni.
The case is currently still under investigation, with no arrests made at the time of publication. The police requested anyone with information to contact Standerton SAPS on 017 719 1250 or call Detective Constable Matula at 064 941 9548.
Two days before the retrieval of Tshabalala’s body, the police also found the body of an unidentified man floating in the Vaal River.
Mtsweni said this man was about 30 years old. His hands had two tattoos – ‘Dad’ sprawled on the right and ‘Mom’ on his left.
“At this stage, the body is unidentified, and the police ask anyone with missing family members to identify the body,” added Mtsweni.
