eMbalenhle community celebrate Heritage Day

The event was organised by Anita Mkhwebane, a councillor together with the Glory of the Last Day organisation.

Different cultural groups took part in Heritage Day celebrations held at the eMbalenhle Sasol Club on September 24.

The event was organised by Anita Mkhwebane, a councillor, and the Glory of the Last Day organisation.

Mkhwebane said Heritage Day brings together young and old to showcase their cultural clothes and promote the use of indigenous languages.

“Heritage Month gives us a chance to remember who we are and to encourage young people to embrace the importance of their cultures. Each culture has its origin, the way they wear, speak and dance, this alone brings people together.”

Mkhwebane said culture teaches respect for others.

“We are faced with crime challenges because people have lost the spirit of humanity. Our children are lost because parents are running away from their responsibilities of grooming and raising children to be good citizens,” said Mkhwebane.

Mkhwebane said the eMbalenhle community needs programmes that will assist young people in refraining from crime and drugs.
