Famsa in Secunda needs help with two projects
Donate toiletries or toys to Famsa and give back to your community.
The social workers of Famsa are planning several projects for December to give back to the community. Their yearly Dignity Box project, launched in 2018, already kicked off this year.
They are collecting personal items for women and children affected by gender-based violence (GBV). However, for the first time, their project will expand this year as they are reaching out to men as well.
“GBV also affects men and we want to reach out to all genders affected by any type of violence,” said social worker Gift Sibiya.
The recipients of the dignity boxes are mostly victims of the Tutuzela Care Centre at Evander Hospital. This centre is a health facility that provides emergency medical and forensic services to rape survivors.

Men from the Men’s Voice NPO in eMbalenhle will receive the dignity boxes made up for men. The community is welcome to compile boxes for men, women or children, or to donate some items that go into the boxes.
These items include soap, a washcloth, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, body lotion, lipstick, a sweet, sanitary pads and a toy.
The cut-off date for donations is December 4. The other project that these social workers from Famsa launched is a Christmas party for vulnerable children at a drop-in centre in eMbalenhle.
They want to give a gift box to each of the 64 children between the ages of two and 16.

People who want to participate in this project can drop off donations of toiletries, skincare products, hair food, stationery or toys at Famsa’s office in Secunda.
Any items or donations are welcome.
The social workers who launched these projects, Sibiya and Judith Madungandaba, are also looking for someone to sponsor transportation from eMbalenhle to the Duck Pond, where they want to host the party.
They would also like to set up a jumping castle for the day and are looking for a sponsor. The cut-off date for donations is December 6.
For more information, to sponsor, or to get involved in any of these projects, contact Famsa at 017 631 1593.
