Grootdraai Dam’s level is stable while others decline
The level remained at 70.3% last week while most other listed dams in the Gert Sibande district recorded a decline in water levels.
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) is optimistic about the Grootdraai Dam’s stable water level. The level remained at 70.3% last week while most other listed dams in the Gert Sibande district recorded a decline in water levels.
The only dam in this Water Management Area that recorded an increase is the Heyshope Dam, which rose from 94.8% to 96.0%.
Westoe remained unchanged at 35.1% and Morgenstond followed this trend, keeping steady at 67.6%. Nooitgedacht recorded a decline from 76.0% to 75.7%, Vygeboom from 88.4% to 87.6% and Jericho Dam from 65.0% to 64.1%.
The DWS further detailed the average dam levels in Mpumalanga. A 0.1% increase was noted in the province’s average water levels, bringing it up from 78.5% to 78.6%.
The Gert Sibande District also recorded an increase in water levels, from 78.9% to 79.2%. The DWS urges the community to use water sparingly.
“Residents are urged to adopt and maintain stringent water conservation measures to protect this precious resource and ensure its sustainability for future generations,” concluded the DWS.
