The EFF wants the GMM mayor to account after his car accident
Mayor says sharp objects punctured two tyres on his council vehicle on the road outside Bethal. This caused him to lose control of the vehicle and it veered into a farm fence.
The EFF in Govan Mbeki Municipality wrote a letter to the mayor, Nhlakanipho Zuma after his council vehicle was involved in an accident on November 10, on his road to his home in Charl Cilliers from Bethal.
The EFF said it was concerning for Zuma to drive the council car himself on the day of the accident. The party wants to know where the accident happened as there was no other vehicle involved, and what caused the accident.
The EFF also wants to be provided with the accident report, pictures of the car on the accident scene, the tracking device report and full details of the meeting, a signed attendants’ register and the name of the venue where Zuma attended a meeting on the day of the accident. It was on a Sunday.
The EFF wants to know where were Zuma’s bodyguards, paid by the council, to drive him. Ridge Times asked the mayor about the EFF’s allegations.

Zuma confirmed the accident happened on that day. He said sharp objects punctured two tyres on his council vehicle on the road outside Bethal.
This caused him to lose control of the vehicle and it veered into a farm fence. The mayor said there was a scratch on the vehicle.
Zuma said he was driving on a gravel road just graded. He wanted to know why this incident had become an issue because accidents can happen to anyone.
“I am allowed to drive the council vehicle. The accident was reported. The police arrived on the scene and the accident report was done and the insurance company also arrived.
“They checked the vehicle, and no damages were found, except for the body scratch. Many municipal vehicles have been involved in accidents, but no one questioned the drivers. Why me?” asked Zuma.
