Every year, the campaign of 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence (GBV) and child abuse, is commemorated worldwide from November 25 to December 10.
This year, the Ridge Times newspaper took hands with Famsa to create awareness and post a series of stories during these 16 days.
One of Famsa’s projects that focusses on supporting victims of GBV, is their yearly Dignity Box project which already kicked off this year.
With this project, Famsa collects necessary items such as toiletries for women and children affected by GBV. For for the first time, their project will expand this year as they are reaching out to men as well.
“Men are also affected by gender-based violence and we want to reach out to all genders who are affected by any type of violence,” said Famsa social worker Gift Sibiya.
Men from the Men’s Voice non-profit organisation in eMbalenhle, will be the recipients of the dignity boxes made up for men.
The community is welcome to make up boxes for men, women or children, or donate some of the items that go into the boxes.
These items include soap, a wash cloth, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, body lotion, lipstick, a sweet, sanitary pads and a toy.
The cut off date for donations is December 4. If you want to sponsor any of the items or get involved, contact Famsa at 017 631 1593. They are also in need of wrapping paper for this project.
