Potholes in Standerton have been an ever-present nuisance, causing trouble for motorists. According to a poll by Standerton Advertiser, 51% of 241 voters’ biggest concern on the road is potholes.

A resident of Standerton claims potholes have forced him to replace his tyres, shocks, and other parts, costing him around R15 000.
“The problem is not only the immediate damage caused by potholes, but the later financial implications to equip yourself to deal with the state of the road,” said Juan Nortjé.

Though the Lekwa Municipality is constantly working to better the infrastructure, the problem does not seem to be resolved.
This is due to trucks driving on roads where they are not permitted in town.
AfriForum has attempted to stop this by putting up 9t restriction boards in selected areas in town, however, this incident continuously occurs. Ward 4 Clr Corné Stoltz has addressed the issue.
“It is our responsibility as residents to ensure these truck drivers do not break the law in these manners. If you see an incident, report it to local traffic enforcement or local community groups.”
