eMbalenhle SAPS warns the community about RDP house scammer
According to Busi Mthethwa, the eMbalenhle police spokesperson, the victims told the police that they deposited money into the fraudster’s account after they saw an advertised RDP house on Facebook.
The police in eMbalenhle received complaints from people who were allegedly scammed by someone advertising RDP house in eMbalenhle for sale.
According to Busi Mthethwa, the eMbalenhle police spokesperson, the victims told the police that they deposited money into the fraudster’s account after they saw an advertised RDP house on Facebook.
“As police, we always warn residents not to deposit money into the accounts of people they don’t know. We understand that people need a place to stay, but they must first verify the information to avoid losing their hard-earned cash.”
After depositing the money, the fraudster disappeared and he was no more to be found on the cellphone number provided on Facebook.
Mthethwa advised the community to rather go look at a product before buying it and they should also demand to meet the seller face to face.
“Demand to see documents of that property and that the property is indeed that person’s to sell,” said Mthethwa.
She warned that these kinds of criminals are difficult to trace and community needs to be extra vigilant at this time of the year.
