Sasol Marathon Club in Secunda awards best athletes

Sasol Marathon Club awarded the best athletes for 2024 during their prize-giving and AGM on December 7. Shellboy Mavuso walked away with the most trophies.

He was awarded Club Ambassador of the Year, received the trophies for Sasol Marathon sportsman of the year, best time among the veteran men in a 10km, 21.1km, 42.2km and an ultra marathon, and for being a Comrades silver medalist.

The other shining star of the evening was Maceleni Mahlangu, also a Comrades silver medalist. He received trophies for being the first Comrades man from the Sasol Marathon Club to cross the finish line, the best time trail among the senior men and the best time among senior men in a 10km, 21.1km, 42.2km and an ultra marathon.

Among the women, Shantel Haasbroek walked away with the most trophies.

She received accolades for being the best senior woman in a 21.1km, 42.2km and ultra marathon, the first Comrades woman from the Sasol Marathon Club to cross the finish line and the Sasol Marathon Club sportswoman of the year.

The other men who excelled during the year and received trophies are Thando Zumani for the best time in a 21.1km marathon among the juniors, Gift Sibanyoni for the best time in a 10km marathon among the juniors, Nkosinathi Maseko for the best time in an ultra marathon among the seniors, Nduduzo Hlongwa for the best time in a 21.1km, 42.2km and an ultra marathon among the masters, Linda Magqabi for the best time in a 10km marathon among the masters, Isaac Mahlangu for the best time in a 10km and 21.1km marathon among the grand masters, Motlalepula Tsolo for the best time in a 42.2km marathon among the grand masters, Reginald Motseki for the best time in an ultra marathon among the grand masters, Ian de Beer for being the best walker in the 10km marathon and Gerhard Badenhorst for being the best walker in the 21.1km.

The women who received trophies are Angela Bwalya for the best time in a 10km marathon among the seniors, Francinah Machete for the best time in an ultra marathon among the veterans, Khomotso Mabokela for the best time in the 10km, 21.1km and 42.2km among the veterans, Mavis Mjungu for the best time in the 21.1km among the masters, Busi Magqabi for the best time in the 10km marathon among the masters, Beauty Kubheka for the best time in the 10km and 21.km marathons among the grand masters and Hester Badenhorst for being the best walker in the 10km and 21.1km marathons.

Comfort Maphaha received a special trophy for completing the most races for the year, while Nomisikhaya Nkosi received the trophy for the most improved runner for the year and Dumisani Chibanda received the fun ‘skilpad’ trophy for finishing the

Comrades in just two seconds before the cut-off time for receiving a medal.

The athletes who received trophies for the best time trails in their respective categories are Mykayla Lumley, Amos Tsotetsi, Linda Magqbi, Isaac Mahlangu, Gerhard and Hester Badenhorst, Ndumiso Magqabi, Angela Bwalya, Francinah Machete and Busi Magqabi.
