Athletes enjoy Valentine’s Night Race in Secunda

Siyabonga Xowani of the Sasol Athletics Club (SAC) won the Valentine’s Night Race’s open category on February 12.
He finished the 10km in 30:57.

Nhlanhla Mabuza, from the same club, finished second in 32:18, while Ayabonga Mavuso from the Secunda Marathon Club (SMC) finished third in 33:41.

Helena Joubert from the SMC was the first woman to cross the finish line in the open category in 38:43. Lumarie du Plessis from the SAC finished second in this category in 38:52, and Xoli Machida finished third in 44:22.

In the junior category, Evan Weideman of the SMC won in 38:32, while Thando Zumani of the SMC finished second in 44:57.

Lumarie du Plessis won the junior women, while Mykayla Lumley of the SMC finished second in this category in 59:59.

Simon Sibisi from the SAPS won the 40+ category in 38:31, Amosi Mngomezulu from the Evander Athletics Club won the 50+ category in 43:04, and Zacharia Ramaotswa of the Thungela Athletics Club won the 60+ category in 51:43.

Helena Joubert was also the first woman in the 40+ category. Marietjie Lombard of the Bethal Marathon Club won the 50+ category in 52:57. Elize Bruwer won the 60+ category and was the first walker to cross the finish line in 1:27:54.
