Mahlangu, Wooding win Sasol Marathon in Secunda

Runners competed for top spots in the 42km, 21km and 10km races.

Never Mahlangu of the Bethal Marathon Club and Annerie Wooding of the Hollywood Athletic Club were the overall winners of the 45th Sasol Secunda Marathon on February 15.

Mahlangu finished the 42km race in 2:31:12. Tsiami Lepoto of the Sasol Marathon Club finished second in 2:36:31. Tshedza Munyai of the Hollywood Athletics Club was third in 2:36:58.

Wooding won the women’s 42km race in 3:00:35, followed by second-placed Helena Joubert of the Sasol Marathon Club in 3:07:15. In third was Thuli Mbatha from the Katlehong Athletics Club in 3:31:33.

In the 21km race men’s division, Lesetja Papo finished first in 1:07:48. Second was Siyabonga Xowana in 1:07:48, and third was Lucas Jani in 1:10:56.



Keneilwe Sesing finished first in the 21km women’s race in 1:30:46, with Bianca Snell second in 1:32:00 and Melissa Jansen van Vuuren third ain1:33:04.

The junior boys’ 21km winner was Teboho Molefe, finishing in 1:12:44. Second was Thembinkosi Mavuso in 1:19:17, and third was Sbusiso Mabaso in 1:22:47.

In the 10km men’s division, Mpho Mokoena finished first in 33:49, second was Derrick Masango in 34:33, and third was Lefa Kwanele in 34:47.

The first woman to finish the 10km race was Frederika Rossouw in 0:45:17. In second was Hlobisile Madida in 48:09, and third was Thokozile Mokoena in 49:23.
