Law enforcers in Standerton nab two for card fraud
When community members saw the vehicle at a local filling station, they allegedly assaulted the criminals to retrieve the card.
The provincial commissioner’s office in Mpumalanga released a media statement detailing a case of two people arrested for card scamming on March 30.
On March 29, the Standerton SAPS and Kasselman Security Services (KSS) received a tip that a vehicle with GP registration plates was occupied by suspects of fraud carried out in the CBD.
According to the statement, they stole a community member’s card at a local ATM. When community members saw the vehicle at a local filling station, they allegedly assaulted the criminals to retrieve the card.
There were allegations that the criminals had robbed a woman of her personal belongings, including bank cards, and withdrew R1 800 from her bank account. They were arrested with the cash on hand and will appear in court on March 31.
After the efforts to arrest these criminals, the acting provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the teamwork between the SAPS and KSS.
“These partnerships assist in ensuring perpetrators are swiftly brought to the book,” he said.
