Dam levels in Gert Sibande suffer slight decreases
Grootdraai Dam dipped from 102.7% to 101.2%.
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) released a media statement on April 9, detailing the current water levels of dams in the Gert Sibande District.
According to the DWS, the weekly state of reservoirs report reflects steady dam levels, with average dam levels across Mpumalanga remaining at 99.9%.
The average dam levels in Gert Sibande showed a slight decrease from 101.3% to 101.0%. Most listed dams in the district saw decreases in water levels.
The only dams recording increases for this week are Jericho Dam and Morgenstond Dam, which increased from 95.2% to 100.9% and 98.1% to 99.3% respectively.

The statement indicates that other dams in the district saw decreases. This includes the Grootdraai Dam from 102.7% to 101.2%.
Heyshope Dam saw a decrease from 101.9% to 101.3%, Nooitgedacht Dam saw a slight decrease from 100.7% to 100.5%, while Westoe dropped from 100.9% to 100.4% and Vygeboom Dam decreased from 101.5% to 100.9%.
Themba Khoza, spokesperson for the Department of Water and Sanitation, reminds the public that South Africa is a water-scarce country.
“Even in times of abundance, it is necessary to use water sparingly, avoid unnecessary waste and report water leaks,” added Khoza.
