Girl from Standerton excels at international karate championship

Local karateka finishes fifth in Tonga.

Amelia Sehar competed in the AUSC Federation Region South Karate Championship, held in Tonga on May 24-25.

She competed against two top karateka and earned fifth place in the kata category and a gold medal in kumite.

The championship attracted international karateka from as far as Angola, Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi and Mozambique.

According to Jannie Degenaar, owner of Three Swords Dojo, Sehar competed with precision and grace.

“With her quick reflexes and strategic mindset, she dominated her opponents,” said Degenaar.
