CoT and mine hand out houses

The event was led by the deputy executive mayor and MMC for Finance, Eugene Modise.

The City of Tshwane (CoT), in collaboration with Palesa Coal Mine, handed over eight new homes to families who had been living in shacks and mud structures in Region 7, Bronkhorstspruit, on July 22.

The event was led by the deputy executive mayor and MMC for Finance, Eugene Modise. He described this moment as a significant milestone.

“This life-changing moment is part of a broader commitment under a signed memorandum of understanding between the city and Palesa Coal Mine, which will see 20 homes constructed through the company’s Social and Labour Plan,” explained Modise.

“This initiative is an interesting example of what can be achieved when public and private sectors join forces to deliver on South Africa’s constitutional promise of dignity, shelter, and a better quality of life for all. It is not just about building houses – it is about restoring hope, affirming human rights, and creating sustainable communities.”
