Colour and care to Cullinan and Rayton kindergartens
The outreach initiative focused on enhancing the learning and play environments of the centres.
In honour of Mandela Day, the Community Service Team from the City of Tshwane’s Region Five partnered with Ward 100 Councillor Johannes Bekker to uplift two kindergartens in the Cullinan and Rayton areas at the end of July.
The outreach initiative focused on enhancing the learning and play environments at the early childhood development centres.
Volunteers repainted playground equipment, perimeter fences and various fixtures, transforming the spaces into more vibrant, child-friendly areas that encourage joyful play.
In addition to the physical improvements, food items and toys were donated and handed over to the teachers, easing the financial burden on the centres.
Emphasising the importance of health and prevention, Bekker distributed ultraviolet (UV) indicator wristbands to each child. These wristbands change colour based on UV radiation levels, teaching children and caregivers about sun safety while promoting cancer awareness.
“Mandela Day is a powerful reminder that each of us has the ability to make a meaningful difference,” said Bekker.
“Through small acts of kindness, such as painting a playground or handing over a wristband, we’re investing in the future of our community.”
Bekker also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Region Five Community Services Team.
“A special thank you to the dedicated officials who continue to offer their personal time and unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of our residents. Your service goes far beyond the call of duty, and our community is better because of it.”
He told Streeknews that the project was made possible through the collaboration of regional officials, local sponsors and caring community members.
“They joined together to bring hope, colour and joy to Cullinan and Rayton’s youngest and most precious residents,” he said.
