Sasol donates 600 trees in support of campaign

The campaign forms part of the Presidential One Million Trees Programme, which encourages all South Africans – government, civil society, businesses and communities – to participate under the theme: My Tree, My Oxygen. Plant Yours Today.

Sasol donated 600 trees to the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs on September 24 in support of the Presidential One Million Trees campaign.

The trees will be planted across identified areas within the Govan Mbeki Municipality. On the day, Govan Mbeki Municipality executive mayor, Nhlakanipho Zuma, joined the MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs, Khethiwe Moeketsi, in planting trees at several locations in eMbalenhle.

The first tree was planted at Vukuzithathe Primary School, with additional trees planted at the Secunda cemeteries and along the Secunda–eMbalenhle road.

Speaking at the event held at Kotso Hall in eMbalenhle, Rethabile Njibu, representing Sasol, said that as the company celebrates its 75th anniversary in September, tree planting has become a meaningful tradition.

“We annually plant trees for many purposes, including as a sign of remembrance for our former employees and leaders. We also plant trees within our operations to green our environment, improve air quality for our communities, and support wildlife sanctuaries. Some of you are aware that inside Sasol, there are wild animals like rhinos,” said Njibu.
