Amapiano artist from Standerton dreams of making it big in the music world
Owami Vilakazi (18) loves to connect with people through sound and energy.
Owami Vilakazi (18) goes by the stage name Bhut Owami and has been making amapiano hits since 2020. He matriculated at Thobelani Secondary School.
Vilakazi always had a deep love for music, but started viewing it as a career path in 2020 during the Covid-19 lockdown.
“That’s when I discovered my talent and realised I could write verses and create full songs,” said Vilakazi.
His passion for music drives him and allows him to connect with people through sound and energy. His upcoming dance track, Ulala Kanjani, was created to get people on their feet.
According to Vilakazi, Ulala Kanjani means ‘How do you sleep when we are having fun?’
“It speaks about enjoying life, celebrating and staying in the moment,” explained Vilakazi.
He thanked his collaborators, Jayy Que, Kapteni102, and Mr Danko for bringing their energy to the studio and working with him to create the track.
For now, Vilakazi is focusing on making music and growing his platform. He hopes one day to collaborate with bigger names in the industry and to grow his platform to an international level.
“I want my music to take me on world tours outside South Africa,” stated Vilakazi.
Though Vilakazi still grows his platform, he believes young artists need to keep pushing, believe in their sound and music, and promote themselves to build a fan base.
“Keep promoting your work so people can hear it. Stay consistent, stay patient, and trust the process. Our time will come; we just have to keep working and never give up,” concluded Vilakazi.
